Resident-only pheasant season looked to be a promising opening weekend for hunters. Mrs. Podzimek’s preschool class had a special visitor, Dustin Brandt, from the Avon Volunteer Fire Department.
The library will be closed Monday, October 14th . If you have library items to return, remember they can be placed in the book return box at the top of the ramp next to the door for the adult library.

The Lake Andes Eagles celebrated their homecoming week. Homecoming dress up days included Flag Day, Twin Day, Sports Day, Holiday and Black/Gold Day.
National 4-H Week was celebrated October 5th – October 11th.
What is duck banding? Who does duck banding? Why is duck banding important? For most people these types of questions never even cross their mind unless they are a part of an ornithological organization, work for a wildlife organization or are a duck hunter.
October 2nd found us at the Rotary Clubhouse with three more Wagner Community Seniors present. They introduced themselves and spoke about their studies and their future. Julia Bruguier and Vincent Bruguier are twins, and their parents are Jayette Bruguier and Drew Bruguier.
10 Years Ago – 2014 The City of Wagner went pink during the Paint the Town Pink event. A large pink ribbon was painted in the middle of Main Street in honor of all those that were currently battling, had battled or had lost their battle with breast cancer.
After decades of hosting Oktoberfest in Menno, with a polka band or a Branson style show, SoDak Stamm Chapter of the Germans from Russia Heritage Society is trying something new, or Neu as it is spelled in German. They are hosting a Sunday afternoon talent contest.
As we celebrate Grandparents Day this September, LifeServe Blood Center is encouraging families to embrace a meaningful tradition that not only honors our elders but also contributes to the community in a significant way: blood donation.
The final Menno Pioneer Opry for the 2024 season will be held Friday evening, October 4, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the big red barn on the Menno Pioneer Acres Site. As has been the tradition for 13 seasons, program is free and open to the public.

The theme of the 2014 Avon Homecoming Parade was “Video Games”. As it was homecoming weekend, several class reunions were held including the classes of 1969, 1974, 1975, 1964 and the 2004 AHS Championship Football Team.
