The Wagner Community Memorial Hospital-Avera sponsored a 13th annual 8th Grade Career Fair on Thursday, January 25, 2024 at the Wagner National Guard Armory.
This week’s WCS Senior spotlight highlights Owen Bekanich. He is the son of Susan May Gullikson. Owen has many nicknames including Owenator, Owenski, Owee, O1, ON, and Bumber.
The inaugural podcast of Recovery Warriors Talk was held January 19 at the Lighthouse Church in Wagner and was hosted by Leon Flying Hawk and Rosezena (Zena) Zephier. The first podcast gave an introduction to what to expect on the weekly talk and just a taste of the background of each host.

Meeting was called to order at 4:12p.m. Attendance included Ilene Muller, Mary Hurd, Twila Lukkes, Loretta Knodel, and Julie Minow.
The Minutes of last meeting (11/29/23) were read by Julie Minow and approved by Ilene Muller.
Avon Drama Club competed in the Region One Act Play competition Wednesday, January 17th in Mitchell. They secured 2nd place with their performance of “Booby Trap” and advance on to the State One Act Festival which will be held in Brandon Valley February 1st-3rd.
Wicked Hair and Fashion Co. in Lake Andes is owned and operated by Samantha Frederick. Samantha has owned and operated the salon for just shy of 11 years. Wicked Hair and Fashion Co. has been in its main street location (357 E Main St) for the past seven years.
The second week was just the beginning of a very busy 2024 session. The week started with the annual Department of Revenue update for the Transportation Committee. DOR is switching to a new system called 605 Drive.
We are off to the races and bills are flying through committee hearings in both chambers. Every bill gets a hearing in the state of SD, and it is estimated that we will have at least 500 bills this session.
