2023 Labor Day Parade Marshall:

The Wagner Labor Day Committee is honored to present our 2023 Labor Day Parade Marshal, Sharon Haar. Sharon and her late husband Harris contributed so much to this community and their recognition is well-deserved.

ANDES CENTRAL NEW SUPERINTENDENT BRAD PETERS

On July 1st, Brad Peters became the new superintendent of the Andes Central School District. He was interviewed and hired in February but did not officially become superintendent until the first of July. Peters grew up in Winner, where he spent his elementary and high school years.

VERNON’S REPAIR AND AUTO SERVICE IS NOW K TIRE & OIL, LLC

Lake Andes has had a new business on Main Street for the past few months. On March 20th Vernon’s Repair and Auto Service became K Tire & Oil LLC. K’s Tire and Oil is owned and operated by Jr Kiyukan. He has not yet had a grand opening but plans to once the shop is more where he would like it to be.

Assuring effective health care to a population is a challenge for every society. As care options become more complex – and expensive – the challenges increase.

A NOTE TO SELF: CALLED TO LOVE

In the Gospel of John, shortly before Jesus is arrested, He says “my command is this: love each other a I have loved you” (John 15:12). Jesus and His disciples teach the significance of love throughout the New Testament.

123RD WAGNER LABOR DAY COMMITTEE

The 123rd Wagner Labor Day Committee has been busy putting the finishing touches on the upcoming Labor Day Celebration September 1-4.

2023 BON HOMME ACHIEVEMENT DAYS

The 2023 Bon Homme County 4-H Achievement Days ended with the Senior and Junior Round Robin Showmanship Contest. Contestants that competed were Seniors Carmindy Ferwerda, Peyton Hellmann, Brock Kotalik, Hayden Talsma and Landon Thury.

HONORING OUR VETERANS

As of 2021, more than 65,000 veterans live in South Dakota, more than 20,000 of those are Vietnam veterans who served from 1961 to 1975. Many of these veterans did not receive a proper welcome home after the war and came back to a debate of the rightness or wrongness of the war.

THE UNSUNG HEROES OF STURGIS

I didn’t think I’d find so much Jesus at the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. He’s everywhere all the time, but I didn’t expect to feel his presence at a pancake breakfast at the Buffalo Chip.
