What do warts, pap smears, cervical cancer, head and neck cancer, and a vaccine all have in common? Three letters: HPV Human papillomavirus (HPV) is a common virus that can cause growths on skin and mucous membranes.

When I first met Adam Grimm earlier this summer, he was a two-time winner of the Federal Duck Stamp Contest. Since then, he’s made it three, winning the 2024 contest with an amazing acrylic painting of spectacled eiders.

Early on Saturday, October 19, the Wagner Oral Interp team loaded up and headed to Brandon Valley to compete in the BV Speaking Lynx Tournament. This competition included over 330 participants, from schools that are in Class AA, A, and B. Wagner brought our 6 competitors, ready for the challenge!

Wagner competed in the Bon Homme competition on Friday, October 25! All students performed well and came away with some awards, highlighted by Presley Slaba, scoring a Superior Plus in Storytelling, the only competitor that day to do so in that category!

Wagner Oral Interp was split on Thursday, October 17, as half the team traveled to Region Cross Country and the other half competed in the Lennox Oral Interp Invitational! Macee Stimpson, Samuel Kafka, and Portlyn Jones all competed in Lennox.

The cross country athlete of the week is Zander Fathke. He is the son of Chris and Nikki Fathke. Zander joined cross country because he wanted to run and push himself. This is Zander’s first year of cross country.

Dominic is a sophomore at AHS and the kicker on the Pirate football team. When asked about his goals for the rest of the football season, he responded, “to keep starting on defense and kick a field goal.” Dominic's hype-up song is Thunderstruck by ACDC. Dominic has played football for eight years.

Lexi Vanderlei is a middle hitter on the Avon volleyball team. A volleyball player that has inspired her is a USC player named Samantha Bricio.

Lila Ann Vanderlei was born on October 23, 2006. Lila is the daughter of Craig and Amy Vanderlei, and the sister of Grace, Lexi, Bree, and Jon Vanderlei. She loves DIY projects and just being outside.
