DORIS J. NEDVED
Doris J. Nedved, was born October 9, 1966. She was the fourth of five children born to Franklin and Rose Marie (Stedronsky) Nedved in Armour. She passed away at the VA Hospice Cottage on June 18, 2026, at the age of 59.
Services will be held at the Minnehaha County Funeral home, in Garretson on July 11. Visitation will be at 1:00 p.m., with funeral services to begin at 2:00 p.m., followed by a lunch at the Lutheran Church in Garretson.
Military honors will be provided by the Henry G. Fix Post 23 American Legion of Garretson.
She grew up on the family farm south of Wagner along with her two brothers and two sisters. She attended Wagner Community School, graduating in 1984. During her school years she was involved in band playing the clarinet. She attended All-State Band for four years. She also played piano for her church. Doris was confirmed a member of the Methodist Church in 1980.
Upon graduating, Doris enlisted in the United States Air force, being stationed at Kadena AFB in Okinawa, Japan. She met and married Christopher Lingle in 1986 at Naha, Okinawa. Upon finding out Christopher was diagnosed with health issues, they returned to Pope AFB in Fayetteville, NC. In 1988 after completing her 4-year term in the United States Air Force, her and Christopher moved to Volga. She attended SDSU and graduated with a degree in computer science. While going to SDSU, she belonged to their symphonic band. In 1990, her husband Christopher passed away.
Doris re-enlisted into the United States Military by joining the United States Navy where she continued her military career for the next 16 years, fulfilling a full 20-year military career until her retirement. During her time in the Navy, she spent time in various tours throughout the United States including Washington DC, California, and Hawaii. She also performed military tours in Iceland, Afghanistan, and random short tours. She always utilized her computer skills and music talents. She achieved her MS degree in Information Technology Management from the Naval Postgraduate School, and rank achievement until retiring as Lieutenant Commander. She was aboard the Navy ship USNS Comfort when it was deployed to New York City after the 9/11 attacks on the towers and a tour on the aircraft carrier USS George Washington.
Upon her retirement, she moved back to South Dakota and made her home in Garretson. She became involved in church, American Legion, local music groups, bands, church handbell choir and shared her piano talents with church. She spent time traveling with family and friends, always with music as the travel theme.
Survivors include sisters, Kathryn (Jack) Ramsdell and Colleen (Perry) Pesicka; brothers, Dwight (Karen) Nedved and Allen (Brenda) Nedved; mother, Rose Nedved; aunt, Fran Mollet; and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews; also left behind is her beloved service dog Sophie.
Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Christopher Lingle; her father, Franklin Nedved; her father and mother in-law, many aunts, uncles and cousins.
In lieu of flowers or memorials, family request donations be sent to the Sioux Falls Area Humane Society in her name. at 3720 E Benson Rd, Sioux Falls, SD 57104. She spent many years nurturing and preparing cats and kittens for adoption, along with adopting some of them herself.
