When I was in high school, I played a lot of golf at Lake Region Golf Course, a pretty ninehole course near Lake Poinsett. It featured few water hazards and no sand traps, but there was a barber pole on the long par-5 fifth hole.

There’s a line from the movie “Bridges of Madison County” where Meryl Streep, playing an Italian transplant to an Iowa farm, says something to effect of, “The people here are all very nice, that’s true, but it’s kind of like meeting the same person over and over.

Much appreciation to those who attempted to get fair, reasonable zoning enacted in Bon Homme County the past several years. Your efforts made a huge difference. We have 3/4 mile setbacks for 1000 animal units and higher and ½ mile setbacks for 800 to 999 animal units.

Skin is the largest organ in the human body, but it’s easy to take it for granted. Unless we notice pain or itching or funny spots, most people don’t give it much thought. However, the skin is critically important. It helps regulate our body temperature and fluid and electrolyte balance.

Some time ago a former Mitchell Daily Republic editor asked me if I’d like to see my column syndicated, and I told him that syndication would be ok by me. He failed in his attempt to syndicate the column, and I suspect that the failure related to my column being too local and not regional enough.
