I enjoy visiting with my colleagues who are medical specialists. We dive in and explore the depths of a particular condition. However, there is something to say about the breadth of knowledge that a family medicine physician is expected to have.

Although I’ve relished my adventures in the southern hemisphere from Africa to New Zealand, I’ve enjoyed my South Dakota hunts just as much. However, my favorite direction is north. Moose and caribou hunts have been awesome, but my favorite is fishing the waters of Northern Saskatchewan.

Since ancient times, marijuana has been used for medicinal and recreational purposes in many cultures. In the United States, it became illegal during prohibition, like alcohol. Later, under the Controlled Substances Act in the 1970’s, the federal government classified marijuana a Schedule 1 drug.

Life expectancy is a measure commonly considered when it comes to the overall health of a population.

Lately my teenager has been fascinated by medical dramas. Although my “doctor self” is usually rolling my eyes throughout the program, it’s often a good conversation starter. One recent show featured a pregnant woman who experienced one medical crisis after another.

Let’s say that at the Friday night social down at the country club, someone you thought was a friend had one too many drinks and blabbed it around that during his and your wife’s college days, your wife was a loose-moraled fluzzie and party animal.

PROVERBS 30: 5,6 "Every word of God is pure, he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him. Add thou not unto his words, lest he remove thee, and thou be found a liar."(KJV) We have seen in this day and age that there are many folks who think that there are errors in the Bible.

If I were to relate the two greatest shots I ever made, you might attribute them to pure luck, and you might be right. What’s more amazing is missing the two easiest shots I ever had in my entire hunting career. The two shots were at a deer and a turkey.

Dear Editor: I just came across a bit of information in my March/April, 2022 issue of the South Dakota Magazine. On page 13, there is a picture of a field with the fence line full of tumble weeds (Russian thistles). These "tumblin' tumble weeds" were not found in North America until 1877.
