The Avon Pirate football team traded the field for the pool last Tuesday evening for a little “fun” conditioning. The change of scenery gave the players a chance to cool off while still putting in the work as they continue to prepare for the season ahead.

The Avon Pirates opened their 2026 volleyball season at the Hanson Early Bird Volleyball Tournament on August 27, earning a victory over Platte-Geddes before falling to Freeman in three sets.Avon began the tournament with a straight-set win over Platte-Geddes, posting scores of 25-15 and 25-20.

Wagner picked up a 28-3 victory over Hot Springs, led by a strong rushing performance from Payne Petry. Petry finished with 144 yards rushing and scored all four of Wagner’s touchdowns. He also recorded four tackles and a sack on defense.

It was a beautiful morning on Thursday, August 27 when Wagner Cross Country took on their season opener in Beresford. This is a great meet to start off the season as it has so many diverse teams that Wagner doesn’t get to compete against in many of their other races.

The Wagner varsity team came ready to play as a team and had a great tournament in Parkston on Saturday, August 29th. The tournament consisted of five teams: Corsica/Stickney, McCook Central/Montrose, Parkston, Wagner, and Warner. The tournament has both a varsity and junior varsity division.

The Wagner volleyball team opened up its 2026 season against Vermillion on Thursday, August 27th. Wagner put up a good fight in the first two sets, but fell short with scores of 22-25, 23-25, and 13-25.Hannah Holzbauer and Ravyn Medricky led all hitters with five and four kills apiece.

Andes Central celebrated its 2026 Homecoming August 24–28 with a full week of activities, dress-up days and school spirit.Students began the week with Patriotic Day on Monday, followed by Twin Day on Tuesday, Neon Day on Wednesday, Celebrity Look-Alike Day on Thursday, and Spirit Day on Friday.

As school begins, so do the fall sports. Practices have already started and players have been working hard.We interviewed seniors in volleyball, football, and cross country. Breanna Hento is most excited about making new memories and to win not only for themselves, but for their team.

The Wagner Raiders entered the 2026 football season with a younger roster, some new faces in key positions and a simple goal from week to week — keep improving.That approach has already produced a strong start. Wagner opened its season Friday with a 26-0 victory.
