WAGNER STARTS THE SEASON 1-1

The Wagner Red Raiders headed to Gayville on Saturday April 6 for a triangular with Gayville-Volin and Hanson It was a windy battle and the girls fought hard but came up short losing 4-2 in 5 innings against Gayville-Volin.

FINAL THOUGHT ON A FINAL BASKETBALL SEASON

The Andes Central/Dakota Christian girls’ and boys’ basketball seasons both came to end, unfortunately falling short of qualifying for the state tournament. The teams both fought hard in post-play. The Lady Thunder ended their season after advancing to the SoDak 16 where they played Ethan.

AC/DC WINTER AWARDS BANQUET

Andes Central/Dakota Christian held their annual Winter Sports Award ceremony Thursday, March 28th at 6:30 p.m. at the Dakota Christian School. They honored and recognized athletes from girls’ basketball, boys’ basketball and wrestling.

AVON ARCHERY TEAM COMPETES AT STATE NASP TOURNAMENT

The Avon archery team recently attended the 2024 State Nation Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) Tournament held in Spearfish at Black Hills State University on Friday, March 22nd. It was a one-day tournament where everyone from the Avon team qualified to compete at the state level.

Randall Powers

Randall Powers is the son of Dennis and April Powers. He wrestled in the heavyweight class and is currently a sophomore at Avon High School. Randall is relatively new to the wrestling scene and has only been wrestling for two years.

AVON BOYS WRESTLING SEASON RECAP

Avon had two wrestlers out of seven from the Bon Homme/Avon wrestling team that competed in the state wrestling tournament this 2023-2024 season, Tyler Tjeerdsma and Randall Powers. Tjeerdsma ended his senior season placing 6th at the state wrestling tournament.

Tyler Tjeerdsma

Tyler Tjeerdsma is the son of Amber Babutzke and Travis and Hillary Tjeerdsma. He wrestled in the 138-pound weight class and is a senior at Avon High School. Tyler has been wrestling for 11 years.

BON HOMME/AVON AAU WRESTLERS STATE TOURNAMENT

The Bon Homme/Avon AAU wrestlers had an excellent season and ended their season at the AAU State Wrestling Tournament on March 15th -17th in Rapid City at The Monument. 16 wrestlers qualified for the AAU State Wrestling Tournament and 13 of those 16 came home with medals.
